Vista and Microsoft Word Documents

I just installed windows Vista and now the all the Word Documents created
before the upgrade are all locked and I can't open them because of a
security issue. If I try to open cretin word documents I get a you don't
have permission to view this document? ( Contact the owner or Administrator
to obtain permission) ...I have already checked the properties and I do have
permission check marked in all the fields...

These are important documents,I need to get into and need to get this fixed
back to before I upgraded to Vista... I am running Microsoft Office 2007
with Vista.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You gotta watch those cretins. They can be worse than the gremlins
sometimes.

But seriously folks:

1) On XP were these documents password protected, encrypted or anything of
the sort?

2) I don't suppose you did your set up as a dual-boot, did you? If so, you
could boot in XP and fix this.

3) I'm thinking that you may also have to take ownership of the drive these
documents are on in addition to all the permission stuff you've already
done.

4) Have you tried copying the document from one file folder to another and
seeing if you can open the copy? If you have more than one drive, you should
try copying it to a different drive.

5) How long do you think it will be before some poster tells you that you
should have backed up the documents before you installed Vista? I won't be
the one.
