Vista Activation Lost After Every Restart

J

Jeff Bucarion

Darrell,

I checked the SiL 3114 driver, I have version 1.5.10 which according to
their website is for Vista RC2. They do not have a final posted yet. So it
sounds like I may be stuck until they get the final version released. I do
not have the most recent BIOS installed for the SiL 3114 controller as that
must be provided by the the motherboard vendor (ASUS) and they are not the
best and doing updates. That being said, Can you confirm that it is the
Windows driver and not the BIOS that need updating? Also I don't know if
this makes a difference, but I get the notices of a hardware changes without
rebooting.

I had to tickets open with Microsoft one was SRX061226602369 and I am
looking for the scrap of paper with the other. One was for an issue with MS
Flight Simulator X that had the same problem as Vista that the validation
would not "Stick" as it reported there were hardware changes, and the other
was the problem with Vista.

Thanks,

-Jeff

Hello Jeff,
That is the issue, you more than likely need an updated driver from
Silicon
Image. There was an issue with the SIL 3114 driver that caused the disk
serial number to be reported as different each boot which could cause your
issue. An updated driver should be available to address this issue.
Do you have a case number where it was told to you that the processor was
the problem?
The processor should not cause this type of problem to happen and there
have been no reports of this happening. I would like to track down where
that information is coming from
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

Hello Jeff,
It is the driver that needs updating from what I was told not the bios.
The case number you list is the Flight Simulator one, it wouldn't surprise
me that it is the same cause.
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

I recall hearing that there was a driver issue with the SiI3114
single-chip PCI to 4-port Serial ATA (SATA) host controller.
This issue would randomly cause a change in the serial number
of the controller, thus triggering a system to be flagged as
non-genuine. My understanding is this issue was corrected
with the released version (RTM) of Windows Vista.

You may wish to contact ASUS support and see if they have
available any updated drivers for their motherboard that are
Vista compatible.

Hello guys

I just have found this thread.

I have the same problem. My PC is Athlon x64 dual core and motherboard is
Asus A8N-premium and my system disk is SATA RAID on SIL 3114 and I have the
same Vista RC2 driver.

My key is MSDN 10 activations key. And it has exhausted yesterday. Now I
have "Windows is not genuine" text on my desktop.

I am going to call support and open a ticket.

Please let me know if you find the proper SIL driver if it is the definitve
cause.

Thank you.

I am using the same motherboard and have the problem. ASUS like some many
other is quick to drop support for hardware. They have said they have no
planned updates for Vista for this motherboard that they are still selling.
I have downloaded the SIL 3114 driver from Silicon Image it is version
1.5.10 and is listed as supporting Vista RC1. The problem is still
occurring with this driver.

The driver that came with Vista did not solve the problem. I am open to any
suggestions for a resolution to this.
