Vista 64-bit

I installed the Vista 64-bit OS on my Dell XPS 700. It worked well for a
couple of days, however, after I added Photoshop CS, the computer will not
boot up. It stalls with a black screen having the Vista RC1 version sign
(5600) in the corner and the cursor that can be moved.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

I have not experienced, but I have Photoshop 7 installed. Have installed the
latest WDDM drivers for your video card? Because it sounds like its a
graphics driver issue. Also, try booting into safe mode, remove the software
and reboot back into real mode. If the problem still persist, try booting
off the Vista DVD into the Recovery console and choose the System Restore
option (this will only work of course if you have a system restore point
setup before incident had occurred). :) Good luck

Thanks Andre, I already tried safe mode login and the result was the same
black screen. I will try the Recovery Console tonight.

I've experienced this a couple of times. Safe mode and recovery console give
the same results.

I ended up having to reinstall Vista 64-bit each time WITHOUT formatting the
drive. By doing ths, Vista takes all of your files and puts them in a folder
called Windows.old - files like documents, downloads, favorites, PST for
outlook, etc.

Once you complete the install you can move these file fron the windows.old
folder the the proper place with the new installation and you don't end up
loosing your information.

I'm not 100% what causes the problem but a couple of times I get a message
that the sign-in app wasn't responding. After choosing to end the app a
couple of times I was able to get in. But it dosn't come up all of the time.
So to hopefully eliminated this I've disabled the sign-in option as well as
the screen saver (set power control to turn off the monitor after 10 mins) on
this latest install today, and hopefully this will stop this from happening.
