I was ok for a a few hours, but something has caused my iTunes to stop
operating properly. I can bring the app up. I can see the songs just fine.
But, when I attempt to play them, nothing happens. They won't start. Either
will a CD or a song sample at iTunes store, or a MySpace audio file, or my
Band in a Box music software.

I keep getting a message that iTunes is NOT the default app for these files
(upon opening iTunes) but it is set to be the default.

Config: Dell 2.8GHz, 4GB Ram, Vista 32bit, iTunes 7.6, E-MU 0404 external
audio interface

Reports like yours have become all too common with Vista. Stuff works,
then stuff doesn't work. The Vista apologists have many reasons why
this actually, in the presence of evidence, does not happen.

Try removing iTunes completely, including QuickTime and any other Apple
products related to iTunes. Reboot. Then download the latest iTunes
from Apple and reinstall. When QuickTime is installed, pay attention to
the file types that QuickTime supports. The default set is usually what
one wants.

I will try uninstalling everything and starting over again. I will report
back to the discussion group.

or don't !! this same problem occurred for me when updating to itunes 7.6.
if you snoop around there have been allot of problems reported with this
version. Luckily I had an old install file of 7.5. I uninstalled 7.6 -
re-installed 7.5, and turned of auto updates form apple. problem went away.

How did you set iTunes to be the default? If iTunes isn't using the Set
Your Program Defaults functionality, it might not be associating itself
correctly.
