Vist Default User Profile

In the past with Windows XP we installed all of the applications required,
configured the computer the way we wanted, copied the working profile to the
default user profile and then ran sysprep before creating our image.

It looks like the default profile is located in "c:\users\default" Is this
correct? I've tried copying the working profile to the default user profile
in the advanced system properties but the settings do not seem to come
across.

As for sysprep is there a version for Vista?

Thanks in advance.

Sysprep for vista is located in c:\windows\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe if
you use just the sysprep.exe you will be prompted via a dialog box how you
want sysprep to behave. i.e. shutdown, restart. oobe...etc. If you use the
WAIK kit you can create the equivenlet of the old sysprep.inf file now in the
new xml format

place the unattend.xml file that you created with the WAIK in the same
directory as sysprep.

when you run sysprep remember to run command prompt as administrator, (this
must be done, cause even if you are in the admin group, this wont run
correctly.)

at the command prompt c:\windows\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /generalize
/oobe /shutdown /unattend:c:\windows\system32\sysprep\unattend.xml

for other opinons just use the sysprep.exe /? syntax

When you copy the working profile to the default profile (yes it is c:\users\default)
you need to be logged in as another user. That is, if you are logged in as the "working user"
and try to copy that profile, it will not work. Log in as another user with admin rights
or use the local administrator account, then copy the "working user" profile to default.

Download the WAIK for Vista. It has Sysprep for Vista.

Sorry - I was thinking of WSIM and sysprep.xml - Sysprep.exe comes with Vista
in system32\sysprep.
