One of the lovely virii infected my C drive when I had
Win98. I tried to install Norton but it wouldn't allow
it. Simultaneously, I was upgrading to DSL, which didn't
work well with 98, so I upgraded also to XP. Said virus
decided to tag along. The story of frustration is too
long, but the Reader's Digest version is that I installed
a new, bigger HD (F/G/H), installed XP on it and disabled
the C drive.
Granted, I'm no propeller head, but I tried anyway to
make the F drive my new main drive, which setup wouldn't
do. Then I tried to physiclly remove the cancer-ridden C
drive, but then the computer won't boot.
Can I amputate the sick C or should I get a stick of
dynamite and put it out of my misery?

What exactly did you do?
What did you change in the BIOS, etc.?
Let us know.

Shut down the computer. Remove the old "C:" drive and make the new drive
master, being sure it is on ide0 connector/cable and jumpered
correctly. Now you have a choice. Either do a repair install (put your
XP cd in the drive, boot from it, and choose "install" and then
"repair") or just do a clean install so that your new drive will be
"C:" - I would do the latter.

Run FDISK and delete all the partitions and start again.
