Virus Scan - ADWARE in C:\RECYCLERS ???

S

Steve

Using Windows XP Professional

As a result of teenagers in my household downloading "cool things" that
attach to Internet Explorer, I have been invaded by AdWare. I have used
Norton Antivirus and SpyWare Nuker to get rid of most of the files, but
still have problems with a couple of files that I can not seem to locate.

NAV tells me that there are files in C:\RECYCLERS, but there is no such
file/folder/directory (or if there is, I can not view it even if I use
View Hidden Files). The file names have an extremely long alphanumeric
prefix - something like

C:\RECYCLERS\1354a348-46221b-453218-485621\BadFile.EXE

Does anyone know how to get to this location within XP to delete these
darn things??!?!??

Thanks much!

Hi Steve,

Virus scans will only remove viruses, not spyware. To remove spyware use one
(or both) of these programs:

Ad-Aware (free version):
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Spybot - Search & Destroy:
http://spybot.eon.net.au/

C:\RECYCLER is a hidden folder. It is used by the Recycle Bin. To view
Hidden folders, open My Computer. Go to Tools>Folder Options. Click on the
view tab and choose show hidden files and folders. Click OK.
