Virus out of date after October XP update

The security center says my anti-virus program is out of date but the
manufacturer says my products are up to date. I am using McAfee. This problem
happened after the Windows October updates. Anyone else having this problem?

Similar - I have AVG installed, daily update checks/auto dfownloads, and
"full scan" runs on first daily boot.

Nevertheless, I get a start-up (and periodic) balloon message saying "your
pc is not AV protected".
I'm just ignoring it - I know it is, and guess that MS will fix the glitch
sometime soon. I'd be more worried if the auto AV scans did not work (I run
other security stuff too, frequently)!

The real problem is that components of Microsoft Office will not start
stating that there could be a virus on the some of the files the components
are trying to open. The Microsoft knowledge database says this is the way
Office works. So until Microsoft corrects this I can't use my Microsoft
Office.
