Virus/NetWork Worm--What is it?

Went ot use my computer and this Virus/Network Worm popup keeps showing up on
my toolbar, also says Network-iVirus@fp on this block. Have popups showing up
now saying I have spyware and advertisement popups, I have run my Nortons
full virus scan and my Ad-Aware SE Personal and still am getting this. Is
this something Nortons will not take care of? Have researched this and says
you have to do a manual delete but only should be done by someone that is
computer savvy(which I lack), what can I do? Thanks for any info, Tim

The machine is already infected. The pop-ups are being caused BY the
infection. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your
hijackthis log to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7,
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, or other appropriate forums for expert
analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Two part reply..

Perform Part 1 then perform Part 2.

It is suggested that you execute each tool in Normal Mode then in Safe Mode.

Part 1
-----------

Use noahdfear's SmitFraud, SpyAxe, SpyFalcon, et. al., removal tool -- SmitRem.exe

I see recommendations for other malware detectors, which is OK, but what I
didn't see was anyone saying those would take care of your specific problem.
Depending on where you found the advice for manual removal, it might be your
only alternative.
It probably talked about "computer savvy" because it included working
with the registry, but with proper instructions, a newbie can accomplish it.
Who/what talked about the manual removal? I'd like to see what it says
and whether it came from a reliable source.

That said, I don't think there is anything wrong with trying the solutions
suggested in the other posts, but ... sometimes those will leave a machine
in a state where a repair install of the os is required. Personally I think
more needs to be known about the virus/worm/malware, whatever it is.

At any rate, do a backup NOW, just in case things go wrong. Yes, it might
contain the infection but it'd let you get restarted again and once the
problem is finally fixed, you just do another backup to replace the bad one.

Well guys I did go and do some(take out the trash, recommneded by PA Bear,
did not do all the steps as one step said if I unchecked it m computer muight
not start so skipped that one, all said I'm going to print a copy of this and
try it all again) not all the checks some of you said to try and did not get
to far, I do have Spybot-
Search and Destroy that I tried using and after running that one thing that
comes up is Zlob.VideoActiveXObject, this I can not get rid of and I believe
is probally the root of my problem, also when this shows up a box comes up
and says 'Include errors.Log'
C:/ProgramFiles/Spybot-Search_Destroy/Includes/TrojanC.sbi .This
Virus/Network Worm problem if is a part of my problem no longer happens but I
still get Advertisement popups and a couple of times when on the internet my
site I am on goes off and I need to open again. One other thing I'm going to
try is installing Spyblaster and see what it does for me. WELL GUYS, THANKS
FOR ALL THE IMPUT!, I'm not giving up just yet, if all else fails off to a
computer specialist.

Dave, I tried your ideas and run into problems. 1st I got all the way up to
running the first free antivirus(trend) and after running and displaying a
list of virus/spyware my computer froze up, lost all the time and effort,
next day started over (the first virus program would not work this day)with
the second virus program listed and I got the blue death screen, and lost all
again(had a driver problem). I gave up and took it in, they found 9 spyware
related items and had to remove several of them manually, 1 other thing I
found out that added to all this is the Norton 360 I put on really drug my
Ram down(only had 256), so any way when I had it in I upgraded my Ram by 512
and goes great now. Just wanted to tell you where I got with all this and I
really appreciate your time for the reply in trying to help me out!!! Anyway
I am back up and running now and all works great. Thanks to you others that
sent the info also! Tim "Did not mean to go so long!"
