hey buddies..
I have a Hotmail account in spanish...I received an e mail from a friend
with this title "Esa moribunda y solitaria luna, impresionante, chao" which
means "that dying and lonely moon, impressive, bye" well I opened the
attached file because it was a friend who sent it to me and then i follow
the instructions of the attached file and I realized that it erased all my
mp3 files and the files from "my documents" folder. I applied the Mcafee
antivirus but it still keep on deleting the files that I copy on it.
Help please....
thanks....
Eduardo.

Even if you send yourself an attachment you should always scan for any
viruses. Tell your friend to scan his machine although it will probably be
clean. If you are on Windows XP disable System restore and then do another
scan

Use whatever OS you have to retrieve the deleted files from backup. "Undelete" may work, or "System Restore", or you
may need actual data recovery methods. Any additional advice at this point would only help you the next time.

Once a friend of me had a virus and we tried a lot. We deleted it and it
came back and back. Because I did not try the methods described by
Roger, I wasted a lot of time and it was a "I hate windows"-day. So we
used a bootable linux distribution, think it was knoppix, and did it
this way (databackup & scan) - I have a better feeling to freeze the
infected OS while healing it. Maybe this is a bit more easy and also
effective.

Did somebody used online antivirus-scanner? Maybe this would be a good
combination...

Or you can scan the hdd in another computer or starting another OS on
your Computer. But I would not like to do this, cause maybe, there are 2
infected systems then.

If you were just successfull, did the data-recovery work with mp3s?

regards,

Jens
