virus detected (CVE-2006-1309)

Upon trying to email and xls from my forms button to an outside email domain,
I received back en error stating it was undelieverable due to virus detected
(CVE-2006-1309). This database has been running for almost 2 years with a
weekly xls being generated and sent to an outside domain. Is there any
reason for the problem now? Is this a problem with the database? End user
or my computer? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I'd be shocked if your application is actually putting a virus into a
spreadsheet it's generating. I suspect it's a false positive. Check with the
antivirus vendor.

Any kind of virus or malware is extremely rare in an Access database.
CVE-2006-1309 is an Excel virus and should be dealt with like any other
virus. IOW, run a complete anti-virus scan and clean it from your computer.

Arvin,

I will follow your suggestion and run a complete anti-virus scan. One
question though, any of the users that pull and email reports get this error.
So would it be a possible virus on all of the users computers?

Are you creating the spreadsheet via access?

Then the question is, where is the excell executable.?

Has someone tried to create email manually sending the spreadsheet?

More information is needed to point to possibilities.

Ron,

I have a switchboard button that runs a parameter query. Once the dates of
the parameter are selected it automatically dumps the data into Excel2003
attachment in Outlook. Once i send the email i receive a message back from
my postmater that it contained a virus CVE -200601309 and was undeliverable.
This database is split and the backend is on a network shared with the
frontend on the desktop. If I run the report export it and save it locally.
The open Outlook and attach it from my desktop i do not have any issues. I
have also switch the switchboard button to run the older verison of excel and
it sent the spreadsheet without any problems. It seems to be Excel2003
specific.

That's the type of info needed.

One of the things you may want to start with is go to Microsoft Office
Online and post all the updates of office 2003.

The implication so far is the combination of access and Excel. What
command are you using for the export? Transferspreadsheet?

If it is that one, there is a parameter in that command that tells the
type of spreadsheet. The value I would look into is the one that has a
constant that ends in "excell8" or some other value (really number 8
etc.) At our site we have had to make sure that that is always excell8
because we have memo fields that get trunkated if we use excell9 but
come out fine if we use excell8. You may want to play with that part
if you are using transferspreadsheet.

Exporting it manually may NOT be using the same default values. Also
since outlook requires you to actually send the spreadsheet, you might
try opening the attachment and then saving it to see if you get
different results. (Watch what it is saving it AS in the save window.)
This would again point to specifying excell8 or something that will
work with your situation.
