Hello,

For some reason past 2 weeks the virus database update for AVG 6.0
isnt working well, it is very slow and sometiems too busy and the
connection doesnt activate.

On the windows98se PCs it works rarely too but or it is very slow when
it works.

We usually use the grisoft.com or grisoft.cz servers

But we notice on the XP Professional domain PCs it is not working at
all. It
never finds a connections.

We do reach the above servers from internet explorer and we also can
download things from other web sites.

Can you please tell me if some kind of special parameters need to be
configured in the XP Pro ?

Thanks,

Mario Desiderio

Hi Mario,

I'm also using AVG 6.0 Free Edition and Win XP. Since 2 week's I have also
trouble with the updating AVG 6.0. But the problem isn't WindowsXP. The
problem ist the AVG server. I think (but don"t know shure), that they are
busy with the new AVG 7.0. In the last two weeks the web sites from AVG in
other languages than english are under construction (I'm german and use also
the german version). But I don't know, why you don't habe problems with an
older Windows version. If the update dosn't work, try again (2 of 3 times)
and then it work's.

I think it is because of new versions, both of the new v 7 Pro and of
the free version engine, coupled with the demand for definitions that
cover the recent SoBig virus. It is congestion on their servers -
nothing to do with Windows. Quite often there is a failure to make an
internet connection, which means in fact that the server did not
respond. Try again, and it may work. And best probably at a time when
the US is mostly asleep

Everyone has the same problem. You can do better with the direct download
site, http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_updt6.php?lng=fe Download into the
Update sub-folder of the AVG folder, then start AVG.

Everyone has the same problem.

This update problem seems to have been going on for some time
according to the NG traffic I have been following. I have been
waiting for this problem to get fixed before evaluating the product
for possible purchase. Question is... is there anyone at AVG even
working on this since it doesn't seem to be going away.

This is certainly not making this product look favorable in my eye.
