what do I do when a virus alert pops on my screen and says unable to repair this file then when I click ok it says access to the file denied

You should be able to quarantine it then delete it.

find the name of both the virus and the file. Manually delete the file. Go
to Symantec website for instructions on removing the virus.

Sometimes the quarrantine and delete procedure will not work either.

Alternatively, record the location of the file and reboot, holding down the
F8 key as windows starts and start in safe mode with everything disabled.
Then use the command line to try and delete the file.

If all else fails, you can boot from a Knoppix Linux CD and delete the file
(assuming you've got one available).

Most likely the virus is in the protected restore files. To manually remove
these virus files turn off System Restore , reboot , then turn System
Restore back on. Jym
