I have a PC which is affected by virus. But I cannot remove because it went
into registry. Finally I format the harddisk and reinstall Win XP. After
install, the harddisk LED keep light up all the time. What is the problem?

You can't have a virus in your registry. There can be settings in the
registry to run the virus program, but it won't work if the virus is erased
from your disk

You didn't install all the drivers?

And you car will start fine, with no warning lights, if someone steals your
tires.

Did you install ALL the drivers for your PC?

But you relied on winxp default drivers, as opposed to using the manu
drivers designed for your specific PC / hw

PS A virus installed in the registry can be removed by using the correct
removal procedure, without resorting to a format

Baxter,

What type of virus was it & what was its name?

Does the computer take a lot longer to boot than usual?

What type of drive is it? PATA, SATA, SCSI

In Device Manager (Right-click MY COMPUTER | PROPERTIES | Hardware tab |
DEVICE MANAGER button) do you see any yellow exclamation marks? (This is
what Noozer was trying to find out)

Awaiting your response,

How do I know whether all drivers is installed? when I check device manager,
there are no exclamation mark.
Mine is a DIY PC with ASUS board.

I have 2 pcs with the same infections. One I ask Symantec team to help to
remove. But after the cleaning, it comes back. Still have not settle after a
few times. The other one which is the one that I am discussing now is
fomatted and reinstall.

This is second and third install. The first time I install it is very
smooth. No such problem.

To remove malware from your computer you can use this tool by David
Lipman, it's the best I've ever used:

You also need to learn how to keep from being compromised - and that
would include getting your computer behind some NAT Router, installing
real-time antivirus software from a reputable vendor, installing all
updates and service packs, using FireFox instead of IE, using a non-
Microsoft email client, etc...

I now the problem. I have 2 harddisk in my PC. When I reinstall WinXP, I did
not remove the IDE cable from the second HD but just the power. Now I remove
IDE cable. It is normal now.

Thanks.
