Virtual Server for XP on Vista 64 bit

I have a new Vista 64 bit computer and I need XP Home to run some old
programs. What is the simpliest solution for running a virtual server with
XP? Would VMWare be the way to go or would the Microsoft software?
Preferably something that is free and easy to use.

Personally I use Microsoft Virtual PC.
It runs with no problems is fully supported and free.

Hi,

Like Mike, I use Virtual PC and it runs fine. However, if you need access to
USB devices in the virtual machine, you should use VMWare instead as Virtual
PC does not offer this.

I have Vista but they gave me 32 bit on the 64 bit machine I bought.
I have no problems creating virtual machines with VMManager and running
the virtual machines I create with VMWare player. I just wish Vista could
recognize the 4 gig of ram I installed.

You probably could have specified the x64 edition at time of purchase or
approach your OEM now and ask them for the x64 edition - they may provide it
to you for a nominal fee.

And I just found out that I can't install Microsoft Virtual PC on my
Vista system. That takes the cake. Third party stuff works but Microsoft
can't even make their own stuff compatible with their own stuff. What a
joke.

Microsoft Virtual PC works fine on most editions of Windows Vista - it is
just not supported on Home Premium, but it still installs/works fine.
you would have found this is a 30sec search on any Internet search engine.

I saw the notice of no support but I figured it would install anyway bit
it did not. It went a little further then hung up. I'll try it again.

Ensure you have the latest version from Microsoft of Virtual PC.

I have it running on x86 and x64 Ultimate and x86 Home Premium all with no
problems.
