Virtual PC Problem

Jake

I have Vista and I am trying to install XP Home onto Virtual PC. Xp
installed after a few errors copying files. When I try to log onto XP I am
prompted for a password (which I never set up) and I get an error message
*The system cannot log you on due to the following error: The specified
domain doesn't exist or could not be contacted *
Can I fix this or should I just try a new VM ?

What type of XP CD did you use. From your description it sounds as
if you used a VLK that was prep'd to use a Domain login ( Business ).
But that doesn't track with a XP Home installation which cannot join a
domain.

I am using a retail home cd.

XP Home does not support joining a domain. You should not be seeing this.
Something IS wrong.

Delete the vm and start fresh. The screen to watch out for is the
networking screen. Leave the "Workgroup" choice (the default anyway) as is.
That is the first choice.

I deleted the old vm and started a new one. Installed with no problems
whatsoever.
I don't know what happened with the first try but I'm off to the races now.
Thanks again for the suggestion and help Colin.
