Virtual PC 2007 keyboard stops responding

Hello,
I have a strange problem - after some time my Virtual PC 2007's (version
6.0.156.0) keyboard stops responding in windowed mode. I have to switch to
fullscreen mode where the keyboard responds again. Switching back to windowed
mode stops it responding again and vice versa. The only way is to restart
Virtual PC (not only a windows XP session but also close the console). The
time after which it happens is various, mainly after longer inactivity time,
maybe the screenserver plays a role because it happens always after returning
back from the screensaver mode.
Anyone having the same problems? Thanx ahead.

See if upgrading to VPC SP1 helps:

What kind of keyboard is this? What kind of connector is use to plug
the keyboard into the computer? Is this keyboard using any
key-assigning software or is it a plain vanilla keyboard?

The keyboard (it's an HP model) is plugged in the computer with PS2
connector. In the host OS it's installed as "Standard 101/102-Key or
Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard" with drivers "i8042prt.sys" and
"kbdclass.sys". In the guest OS the same.
No key-assigning software used, just plain keyboard. Would you recommend any
test steps? For example change to USB keyboard or so?

My next suggestion would be to see if the BIOS is up to date. This is
one of those odd anomalies to try and pin down especially since you've
got a pretty standard PS/2 keyboard. I don't think a USB keyboard
would make any difference but it may to the VPC since the way it
accesses the keyboard would change. Do you have access to a USB
keyboard for testing purposes?

Did you apply the latest Virtual Machine Additions to the VPC ?
The supplemental add-on provides additional Mouse and other
peripheral control to Virtual machines.

The OP did update to the SP1 released recently but I was not aware of
the additional pack available. Any link for the OP to get this add-on?

The VM Additions exists as a mountable ISO within the VPC Action
menu option. "Install or Update VM Additions...." Once invoked it
should start automatically or once mounted you can open the CD
drive and navigate to the Windows folder and run Setup.Exe. The
VM Additions from VPC-SP1 is Version 13.820.

I've just installed VM additions (13.820) on a VPC SP1 (so now I have both
the VPC and the additions the latest) and I'm going to test it for a couple
of days (I keep using my PS2 keyboard). I'll let you know after that. Thanx
for your help for now.
