Keyboard stops responding during boot screen

I need to get into safe mode, but the keyboard stops responding right at the
screen where you need to press F8. It works at the first screen (BIOS) and
works at the login screen of Windows XP. It's just the few seconds where I
need to press F8 that it doesn't work. It is a wireless keyboard, and I
noticed that the little light goes off just where it stops responding and
comes back on at the next screen.

Why? and how do I fix it?

Tried restarting and reset, didn't work.

Mike, do you have a old PS2 or USB Keyboard you can use temporarily?

Also does your computer have an F-Lock key? Some of the newer keyboards have
this and it disables the F keys from being enabled during boot. If its a
BIOS where you hit Del instead of F2 it could be misleading as to the
keyboard actually not working.. Just a suggestion!
