Hi all,

I noticed that many of you have changed the cache size. I recently
upgraded to 1.5gb of RAM.

What would you suggest my Virtual Memory be?

You are kidding right? 1.5G of RAM and you are worried
about Virtual(pagefile) memory? I doubt you will ever need
any. Still if you insist on altering the settings I
suggest you use "System managed size" I have 512MB of RAM
and only ever use about 150MB of Pafefile on the most
visually intensive apps. Keep smiling.

No, I read something that said that Virtual Memory is used even if you
have lots of RAM. Now if I were to fix the size to something small or
disable it entirely it should improve performance.

Unless you have a very small hard drive, there is little to
gain from having a smaller pagefile, but having no pagefile
will often cause Windows to crash or programs to not run
because they will expect to have a pagefile (even if they
don't use it).

| Why did I get the bum deal?

If not, increase it, the system will only use what it needs,
even if you set it at 2GB, it would only use the amount
needed. It is just the amount of space that COULD be used
and it is reserved space.

Open task manager [ctrl/alt/del] and watch the performance
for a while to see how much you are using and set the amount
25% greater???

| I've set it to 100mbs I think that should be enough.

Will do.

The size of page file needed is very much dependent on your work load.
You need to have *some* but the initial size can be small - say 100MB.
Leave the Max high (say at 1GB) to allow headroom. But setting it to
some multiple of RAM size is absurd, and stands the matter on its head.

Task manager is misleading. Keep an eye on the actual size of the file
(pagefile.sys - you need to have Folder Options - View set to show
Hidden files, and *not* Hide Protected mode ones. Should it grow,
increase the initial size - but it seems very unlikely on that much RAM.
But keep the Max high so it *could* grow, and to allow some space for
the addresses in VM that never get used and which would otherwise lock
out RAM to no purpose

Thanks, I'll change my link.

| Thanks for the compliment Jim - but please make any

the .php,
