3MB of virtual memory should never be a problem. Are you sure that's

Could it be this game needs 3GB of virtual mem in an address space?

I.E. /3GB switch in boot.ini??

If that is the correct wording of the error message then I suspect
that what you are installing is an old game, possibly from the Windows
95 era, and it may be having problems with Windows XP's different
design and/or with the vastly faster hardware in today's computers.

What is the name of the game?
