Virtual memory problem

I'm running XP HE.

I recently had a windows pop-up telling me my virtual memory was low and
that Windows was automatically increasing it, since then, everything I open
takes an age and opens bit by bit, i.e., half a page, then half of the other
half and then a bit here, a bit there, until it's finally open completely,
any way to fix this?
Also, when I right click something the drop menu isn't quite right, it
has no left hand edge and is empty until I drag my mouse over it and then
the contents appear.

How big is your pagefile? The site that Will Denny gave discusses the
pagefile.

That's probably because you have virtually no real memory left.
Could be a virus hog or something.
