virtual memory message

just got a "virtual memory too low" windows will fix...
how does one get this condition, and how can I avoid?

Try Start / Help / Search tab, type "virtual memory" and
follow the instructions.
 
Right click on my computer, select properties, click on advanced, then click
on performance. You should see something about virtual memory there. This is
where you would change or manipulate the amount of virtual memory you have.
