Virtual Memory Low Error

I keep getting a Virtual Memory Low Message. I have added an additional 256MB
of memory to give me a total of 512MB. I have run Adware and Norton Scan. My
CPU is running near 100% with only Internet Explorer running. I am at wits
end on what is causing this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

spybot search and destroy?

sure sounds like a virus to me....

can be caused by a norton program. the procedure in this article may help
(even if is not happening when you shutdown)

Try uninstalling & reinstalling the Norton products to see if this will
correct the

How do you detect the CPU at 100% Use Task Manager, (right click in the
Task Bar and select it), Processes page, set View - Select Columns to
show CPU Usage; CPU Time (cumulative) and probably memory use, and look
for anything (other that System Idle, which is just there to soak
anything left over). If you spot a process using a lot, and especially
if its memory use is growing continually, there is probably malware that

The VM low may well be a spurious message generated by Norton; on VM

Jerry,
May be not a virus. You need to run a few checks on what is running. What
does task manager show that is running? If you cannot see the trouble maker
obviously you will need to do the somewhat tedious Clean Boot
trouble-shooter, that is

1 - Boot into safe mode and if the perofrmance OK something loading in
normal mode js your problem. You need to do a clean boot in Normal Mode.
First check your Virtual memory settings and check that the page file is set
to system configuration
2 - Then Open the system configuration utility and turn off everything not
needed for a clean boot. [If you do not know how to do this just open the
Help & Support from the Start Button, type Clean Boot in the find menu and
run the search. In the bottom of the results Window open the bar labelled
Microsoft Knowledge Base and the answer will be near the top.
3 Follow the instructions and if you boot into Normal Mode OK with a clean
boot add back items until the troublemaker is identified.
