Virtual Memory error

need help with "VIRTUAL MEMORY ERROR". Updated windows
xp from the windows page and now I get an error that
indicates that the computers virtual memory is low. We
expanded virtual memory and without running any program I
still get the message and the computer slows down and
sometimes freezes.

What càn I do???

It sounds that your paging file simply got corrupted.... it's very easy to
fix. And it could have happened without any updates.

Set it's maximum and minimum size to 0. Then reboot.
Once rebooted, resize it to your RAM size as the minimum, and 2.5xRAM for a
maximum.... this will *recreate* a healthier paging file.
(The amounts I have suggested are eternally debated... I am really just
getting you to the place where your VM errors go away)

You could get even better results by running defrag prior to doing the
routine. BUT given your current troubles, I would suggest that you wait
until the file is rebuilt, and then run defrag.... because at least then you
should run into low VM errors. Defrag is for optimization purposes.

The idea is to keep the paging file in a nice contiguous strip... or, if you
have more than one hard drive, each should have a paging file on it, to take
advantage of both drives working simultaneously.
