probably low on resources

try increasing your virtual memory,
try using a memory defragger
and remove any backgrounds from
the desktop....

I am using the virtual desktop manager found on the xp power toys page:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

When I am running excel and switch desktops, it messes up excel and makes
all of the menus disappear and they won't come back. The only way to make
them come back is to close excel and restart it. Has anyone else had this
problem? Is there a fix?

In which mode, when Shared desktops is turned on or when Shared Desktops is off.

plenty of resources for just about anything.
3.2ghz
1024 ram
ati firegl - dual monitor - 256mb
40gb free on boot drive

it's fine when in shared desktop mode, but I like having my tasks shown in
their actual desktop, so I'd like shared mode off.
