How do I set "Windows NT Explorer" to default to viewing
files as "details"? Currently every time I view a
different subdirectory I have to change the view
to "details" from tiles. Same is true for program that
pops up to show me my usb flash drive.

Set the folder view as you wish, then go to tools, folder options, view, and
click Apply to All Folders.

This will "stick" 99% of the time, but sometimes not. I haven't figured out
rhyme or reason on that, but admit I haven't tried investigating it much.

First download and install the fix to make xp "remember" more than 8000
folders.

Then, in explorer, set your view as you like and go to: tools, folder
options, view tab, apply to all folders.
Also make sure to check: remember each folder's view settings.

Open a window on a folder. Set it up in all ways as you would wish for
the Default (including toolbars, status bar setting, item arrangement as
well as Choose details, window size and placing). Then in its Tools -
Folder Options - View, check 'remember each folder's view settings' and
click 'Apply to All' at the top
