Viewing the root directory

Hello, All of a sudden my display properties changed and I can no longer view
the folders under my root directory c:\ I don't know why this happened or why
it should change but when I open my Windows Explorer I used to be able to
view all of the folders under c:\ when it opened. Here is my target
description when I click on properties. Can someone tell me how to fix it?
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n,/e,c:\
Thanks in advance,
Catt

Thanks Peter,
I tried it just as you typed it making sure the spaces were where you said
and it still will not list the folders under the c:\ in the directory pane.
Also, what about the letter "N" it was in my original target path. Did you
forget it or should it be left out? Just trying to make sure and get this
working again.
Thanks

Since this happened "all of a sudden", have you tried doing a System
Restore to before the problem occurred? If not, please try that.

I thought of the restore option but didn't think it would be necessary on a
problem this small. Wouldn't it be more safe to avoid that?

Malke, I tried 3 restore points back to a place where I know for sure that I
did not have this problem. None of them changed the view. I use windows
explorer constantly to view pictures and files and I'm very familiar with it.
Any other ideas?
Thanks Catt

Do you see the Common Tasks pane or nothing?

Does clicking on the Folder button change the view?

Windows Explorer folder pane is blank - grayed out
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/greyfolderpane.htm

Pasting any one of these in the Start | Run box opens Windows Explorer the
same way on my machine. With the folder pane showing.

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n,/e,c:\

Hi, I tried each of your explorer paths, none of them work. I have the first
one you listed but I tried pasting yours over it anyway...no change.
When I open Win Exp I have the folders pane on the left and all of the
directories are listed along with some folders. It starts with Desktop,My
Documents which has a plus sign next to it, then my computer, Floppy A, then
Presario C: followed by D,E,F and G Drives etc. Of all the folders and
directories only the Presario C: does not have a plus sign next to it, which
to me is very strange. All of the folders in the C: are listed in the right
hand viewing pane. If I double click any folder it opens the contents of that
folder in the right hand pane and immediately a plus sign appears to the left
of the Presario C in the Folder pane. I can then click on the plus sign and
all of the folders will then appear in the folder viewing pane. Sorry if I'm
windy just trying to give you a description..
I'll check the links that you listed. Thanks for the help

Catt,

Try ...
Start | Run | Type: c: | Click OK |
Click the Folders button

What do you get?

Start | Run | Type: %homedrive% | Click OK |
Click the Folders button

What do you get?

Hi, I get a complete list of all folders on the c: when I type in both of
your run commands.

Yes, windows is most certainly contained in the c: drive
I find it very strange that the identical target path on all my windows xp
computers is the same and Windows Explorer works on all of the others (total
6)...very wierd.
Thanks for the input hope I can get this solved
