Along with my previous post of not able to download excel
or pdf files or IE 6 or any programs.... around the same
time (this issue developed)... I can no longer right click
a webpage & select "view source". I never had any problems
seeing the html before.

I don't know if the 2 issues are somehow related to a
configuration change (I did not make any changes), but I
would be grateful to a solution. Please e-mail me:

If you have had technical problems before then, you know
how frustrated I feel.

Thank you,
R. Tyler

Given the combination I'd say clear temporary files.... IE tool>internet
options>general tab and use the buttons provided there.

Also remove any shortcut to notepad on your desktop, or rename it to
something other than "Notepad" like Npad or whatever.

This is usually fixed by emptying the Temporary Internet Files.

Also, if you have a shortcut to Notepad on your desktop rename it to Npad.

Some people have reported that Quick View Plus can cause this.

Dear Frank,

Is Quick View Plus a file from Quicktime?

I found a file with a recent modified date by searching
files with the text containing Quick View Plus. It found a
user.dat file located in Windows folder. The date shows
that it was modified today, however I didn't make any
changes. I am not familiar with the .dat extension, but it
is in the windows folder. It was the only file that was
found when I did a search for text in drive C.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Rick

My solution was to right-click the web-page and choose
the "Encoding" item on the context-menu. This opens a
sub-menu that allows you to selet a specific encoding.
Mine was set to "Auto-Select" which is the default I'm
assuming. I changed this specifcally to Windows-1252 or
UTF-16 (or even UTF-8 for that matter) and the "View
Source" command worked again.
