Viewing shared contacts as an address book

Laura

Hi,

We're using Outlook 2003 with Exchange Server.

Is there a way to pull email addresses from a shared
contact folder (someone else's contacts for which you are
a delegate, and which which you've added to your folder
list) from within an email message?

We can add our OWN contacts or a public contacts folder
to our address book -- but when we right click someone
else's folder on our folder list, "Sharing" is disabled.
If we choose Properties, the "Outlook Address Book" tab
we'd usually go to to click "show this folder as an email
address book" is missing.

We need to be able to start a piece of email, click TO,
and then get email addresses from the other person's
contact folder.

Is this possible? THANKS! (Sorry so long!!!!)

Public Folder's Yes... the problem with that though is u
lose your activities log... Maybe if you try going into
the Exchange accout settings, and try the 'open additional
users' mailbox option... remember to give permission to
the root of there mailbox as well...

Hope I helped...

The process of adding another user's Contacts folder to your own address
book display is somewhat involved:

1. Start with a profile that logs directly onto the other user's mailbox,
not your own.

2. On the Properties dialog for the other user's Contacts folder, make sure
that it's set to display in the Outlook Address Book and give it a display
name other than contacts, such as Joe's Contacts.

3. Close Outlook.

4. In Control Panel | Mail, edit the *same profile* to change the mailbox
from the other user's to your own. On the Advanced tab of the Exchange
Server service, add the other user's mailbox as a secondary mailbox.

5. Restart Outlook, and you should see the Joe's Contacts in your Outlook
Address Book as well as your own Contacts folder.

Sue,

Thanks so much. I will give this a try! I'm wondering if this will give
the user viewing the other person's contacts access to their other folders,
such as inbox? (Which would not be desirable -- unless it's only
temporary.)

Thanks!!!!

Thanks for your reply --

Yeah, the public folder doesn't work quite right because the other person
wants it to be their default contact folder (they'll have their own private
contacts in it too) -- it's a Secretary to Attorney relationship where the
secretary views and maintains the Atty's contacts, but the Atty wants to be
able to go to his/her "default contacts" for stuff.

It's only temporary. When you finish constructing the profile, the user will
have access only to those folders for which they have permission.
