Why can't a Windows XP machine list .jpg files from a remote ftp site in
"thumbnail" format? Is there some settings that have to be made to do so?
(besides changing the view option to thumbnails)? Do I need to create a
thumbs.db somehow?

help!! It 's a real pain!!!'

Thanks, Brad

Are you using IE or Network Places for the FTP connection? I really doubt
that you would be able to view thumbnails on the remote site like that, as
it would require actually downloading the files themselves before a
thumbnail could formed. thumbs.db files are only used locally I think. I
am not sure they can even be used on a LAN.

But then, saying that, CuteFTP Pro allows thumbnail view on the remote site,
but I have never used that function, and do not know what FTP commands it
uses to achieve it. I'm not sure if the home version does this either.

Because it would have to download the entire file in order to do that,
which would make choosing one to download kind of useless.

Thanks for that. I thought maybe it might just download and use the
thumbs.db from that ftp site and directory to display the thumbs...
