View type in file selector box

How do I make XP remember how I would like the files listed in the
"open file" and "save file" dialog. I choose "View Details", but the
next time it has changed to "View List" again. Very very annoying!

I've never seen a way to make it do that - I've always had to select the
view details option. I'm not saying I know everything but, well, if you
don't get an answer as to how - that's why. (I've never found a way either -
I've looked. I dislike it as well.)

You can't. It's one of the basic annoyances in XP.
