Open IE and navigate your way to Tools > Internet Options and select the
Programs tab. At 'HTML editor', you can select the program you wish to view
and edit web pages. The default is Notepad, unless you've installed
Microsoft Word (or a version of Works or Office that includes Word) in which
case Word is the default.

That is for viewing and editing web pages, not viewing the source in a
browser.

"View source" functionality in IE: The problem somtime occurs due to a bug
in IE if you've set your Temporary Internet Files too high. If you decrease
this seting to less than 80MB, the problem stops. If not, try to delete all
temporary files.

And, if you have a shortcut to Notepad on your desktop, it can also prevent
you from viewing source.
