View Layout Change in Windows Mail

Just booted up yesterday with a new "Vista" system, and had my Windows mail
working the way I wished, in comparison to O.E., and generally read and was
able to read my mail in the preview pane, without the Header.
However, for some unknown reason I cannot find, the system changed from a
fairly broad line when the preview pane was activated for use, to a
surrounding gray box at the preview pane only, with no indication other than
particular "mail" being color highlighted in the list above when not active.
In addition, I was given the option of "showing" pictures, etc., previously,
but now have no option, and the e-mails I'm used to seeing even yesterday
with various layouts are now just plain jane, with all images blocked, and no
options.
I've checked my Tools/Options in comparison with my account on a laptop, and
can't see where I've changed anything.

Any suggestions?

Found the problem myself, finally! I'd evidently accidently checked "Read
all messages in Plain Text." I unchecked it and solved all the problems.
