Here is what I got following the links you provided:
Docoder: Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder for Dell ver. 3.5.0.3226; decoder file
name: clvsd.ax
With Gspot, "DirectShow claims to be able to play the file".
The file type: MPEG2_Video
Splitter: MPEG-2 Demultiplexer
Video Decoder: Cyberlink (above)
Video Post Processer: Overlay Mixer2
Video Rederer: Video Renderer
Audio Decoder: Cyberlink Audio Decoder for Dell
Default Directsound Device: Audio Rederer
There are other problems. For the files which will play with WMP, there
is
no audio. The files which freeze then skip, there is slow audio.
The only things I have installed is Yahoo Music Engine, which did do a
scan
of all my music files. And I installed EMC Retrospect to back up files.
I have no knowledge of Yahoo Music Engine, but do you feel
that there is a direct correlation with this installation and the
problems you are having with mpeg2 playback? I suspect
that there is? There is plenty of info concerning YME
http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6450_7-6224481-1.html
It transpires that default settings are basically a hijack of
file associations unless the user pays attention and discerns
what should and shouldn't be changed?
This is the site for troubleshooting with the Yahoo! Music Engine:
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/music/...ing/index.html
Are you aware if the problems occurred after the installation
of Yahoo Music Engine?
Did you create a system restore point prior to installing YME?
If so, and you are sure of a correlation, then I suggest you Uninstall
Yahoo Music Engine, and reset back to the nearest restore point
prior to installation:.
Start/Settings/Control Panel/
select "Add/Remove Programs."
Then select "Yahoo! Music Engine"
and click the "Remove" button.
Click the "Next" button, then "Finish."
Now to select a restore point to when your mpeg files
played without problems:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools,
and then click System Restore
click Restore my computer to an earlier time
(if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
From the calender select a date prior to the installation
of Yahoo Music Engine, a restore point may have
been created at the time of installation and if so will
be entitled as such, select that restore point.
Confirm Restore Point Selection
click Next.
System Restore restores the selected XP configuration,
and then restarts the computer.
Ensure all is now running OK
If still problematic post back, and we can UNDO that restoration
and start all over again.............
If all is OK, you can now REinstall Yahoo Music Engine, but do it
correctly and carefully:
Goto the Yahoo! Music Engine home page:
http://music.yahoo.com/musicengine
Click the "Download Now" button.
Unistalling and reinstalling the Yahoo! Music Engine is free,
and does not affect your Yahoo! Music Unlimited account.
You will simply need to sign in using your Yahoo! ID at the completion
of the install process; you will be prompted to add in the music files
already on your computer, and your subscription music (if any) will be
automatically populated. But be careful about file associations!
Conversely, if you are 100% confident that the video playback
problems were there before you installed YME, post back and
we'll try another avenue.
