First, WMP11 does not come with the ability to play DVDs - you must purchase
a DVD codec.

If you played them earlier then you must still have that DVD player/codec
somewhere.

It's simple.

First. You need special software to create a DVD. I mean a real DVD that plays
on every DVD player with a menu. Not the crap they tell you can create from
the OS (WMCE, Vista). That is just putting some files on an optical disk. A
DVD player cannot use this.

Second. You need a converter to rip & upscale the video files on the VCD
(MPEG1)
to a DVD (MPEG2).

But I said to keep it simple ? It still is. All this is included with Nero 7.
Get it from www.nero.com.

This is not an advertisement. Just telling you where to get what you need
to bring up your XP or Vista system to what it should be doing from the box.
