Many pictures or videos whether email or web sites only show a little box
with a colored circle, square, and triangle. I can't get the picture.

A 3rd party firewall could be causing that. If you're using one, try
physically disconnecting from the internet, unload your 3rd party firewall,
make sure your built-in XP firewall is on, reconnect to the internet and
then try. If that fixes it then refer to the 3rd party product documentation
or contact their support.

Restricted sites in IE Tools|Internet Options|Security settings could be
making this happen, too. If you've set it with Spybot inoculation or via
SpywareBlaster, for example, use that utility to undo the protections and
see if that does it. You'll probably want them back on again, though.

Your hosts file could be the cause, too. Try renaming it (it has no
extension such as .exe or .txt, it's just called "hosts" - search for it
with Windows Explorer).

Perhaps IE settings (Advanced tab) are disabling scripting. The pictures
might be being loaded by scripts in the webpage code, instead of by normal
links. Check the Multimedia section out in that Advanced tab area, too.

Are you running a multimedia blocker toggle utility, such as No! Flash? If
so, check it's configuration.

Was one of those things the cause of your problem?
