Video Stuck in Power Save Mode

Computer has Windows XP, home edition.

When I power up computer, the monitor remains in power
save mode. I have verified the monitor and the video
card are working properly by using these devices on a
second computer I have at home running the same OS.

It seems that the OS on the first computer is stuck on
telling the monitor to immediately go to a power save
mode.

Any suggestions on how to recover from this situation?

Thanks in advance.

While continuing to troubleshoot the problem, I ran
accross a solution on the web. Here is the solution:

"the resolution is to clear the nvram and the jumper
settings. (1) turn off your computer. (2) disconnect the
monitor. (3) unplug your computer. (4) flea power
release. (5) take out the video card. (6) remove the cmos
battery for two minutes. (7) insert the battery. (8) turn
on your computer without monitor and video card for two
minutes. (9) turn off computer. (10) connect the video
card and monitor. (11) turn on computer.

I decided to replace the cmos battery for good measure
just in case the battery was low and it created the
situtation in the first place.

I hope this helps others who run into the same issue.
