I'm having numerous events video taped on mini dv but am limited to the
number of mini DV tapes I can use. I wish to have this video for editing,
storage, and creating dvds using windows movie maker 2 on my Windows XP
machines and iMovie on my iBook G4. Therefore I need to video tape, then
store this video so I can re-use the mini DV tapes. What is the best
format/method to store this video to have good quality to use at a later time?

Minidv tapes are probably far cheaper than anything else.
If it has to be hdd then store it as dv.avi for windows and mov for Apple,
so you'll need 13gb for each hour of tape and capture it to one hdd for
windows and one for the Mac, so 26gb per tape total, as they cannot use the
same file.
