Video recording program supplied with Vista?

D

Dave Horne

I've been having problems with my Logitech Pro 9000 webcam and Skype and
uninstalled the Logitech QuickCam software which allowed me to make my own
webcam videos.

Is there a program built into Vista (Home Premium) that accomplishes the
same function? Thanks, DH

you can capture video from a webcam device using the movie maker application
included with vista

I did open Windows Movie Maker but could not find 'Record'. I did see
'Import from Digital Video Camera' but when I clicked on that, received a
message ... could not find a compatible digital device, etc.

Does this program accept video input from a webcam?

I appreciate all your help in this but your screen looks different than
mine. The version of Windows Movie Maker I have is 6.0.6000.16386.

I'm not new to computers at all and I can't find Capture Video _anywhere_ in
this program. I can _import_ any files I have in my Video or Webcam folder
but I can not find a way to actually record in real time using my webcam. I
should add that my version of Vista Home Premium was purchased in Europe
(preinstalled on a new Dell computer purchased earlier this year).

I am stumped. DH

sorry you are correct.. I assumed it was the same as XP, but I booted into
vista and saw that that option was missing. I will look better later since I
am sure there is some way.. but I have to finish some work on XP.
(I have a dual boot)

Hey bozo...try installing Vista if want to help others who are actually
using Vista.
Tell me...how can anyone be such a fool like you are on a daily basis?
You think ANYONE believes one word of your Vista hatred diatribes?
You're really nuts you know that.

I will explain. I say things that are correct but need at least an average
brain to understand...
this information then passes through your dork brain and it gets distorted
since most of the time you cant even comprehend what the heck im talking
about...
thats why you think I am the fool.

Define what you mean by video recording to get more specific replies.

Movie Maker which comes with Vista is capable of capturing video
streams from some cameras. From there you can edit it, sort of, but
crude. You could try Microsoft's free Media Encoder too. If you want
to capture streaming video from some web site that's another issue.

If you're looking for free or shareware solutions a good place to look
around or ask is http://www.vcdhelp.com they have lots of how-to and
active forums on a wide range of video topics.

Dave,

I have a Logitech Webcam Pro 5000 that works fine with Vista Home Premium.
And with Skype.
I have version 11.1.0.2030 of the Quickcam Software, and it lets me record
video.
You might try downloading the newest version (11.5 added yesterday) at
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/435/3056&cl=us,en

My version of Windows Movie Maker (same as yours) can import from a DV cam,
but not from a webcam.

Dave, you might have missed my initial post ...

[initial post] I've been having problems with my Logitech Pro 9000 webcam
and Skype and
uninstalled the Logitech QuickCam software which allowed me to make my own
webcam videos.

Is there a program built into Vista (Home Premium) that accomplishes the
same function? Thanks, DH [end]

I've spent _many_ hours trying to get Skype and QuickCam to work. There
were always problems and when I would go to reboot which was the only way to
get both programs back, I would receive a black screen - the computer would
not reboot. I would have to turn the computer off and restart it. A real
pain.

I have tried the 11.1 QuickCam, the 11.5 QC - I finally uninstalled the 11.5
but kept the video driver. I have posted many times in the Logitech forum
as well as Skype's. I was just wondering if there is a way _without
QuickCam_ to record video using my webcam. FWIW, Device Manager lists a
webcam as an Imaging Device and not a Camera.

I really do not want to reinstall the 11.5 QC. Thanks, DH

Dave sorry for the delay... I hope this information will help you>>>

You might want to try one of these 2 free tools

1st) MS media Encoder 9

read these minor issues with vista here:

2nd) virtualdub http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/

see these 2 screenshots with 2 steps on how to capture
