Video problem.

I was recently told in a previous post that I had to update my video drivers.
My video card is Radeon 9600 from ATI. I went to the ATI website, proceeded
through the whole process of preparing for new drivers. When I finally go to
install my new drivers, I am stuck with this message: ATI CIM Application
Launcher Module has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience.

AppName: setup.exe AppVer: 6.14.10.1005 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0013fcaf

I have no clue why it is doing that and it seems like no matter how many
times I reboot and retry the installation, I am stuck with that message.

Again, any help would be appreciated on this problem. It kind of sucks not
being able to really do anything on this computer except to look for possible
solutions to this issue.

Did you acquire the drivers from?:

Are you following their installation instructions?:

Thank you for your time Brian and your reply.

To answer your questions, yes I did follow ATI's directions step-by-step on
how to uninstall my current drivers. I also downloaded their newest drivers
for Windows XP and as I said before, when I tried installing them I come
across that message... "ATI CIM Application Launcher Module has encountered
a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

So, I tried doing everything from fresh again. I uninstalled everything I
had previously installed for these new drivers on my comptuer, rebooted, and
tried installing them again... Same message, except now I'm faced with
"Found New Hardware" and it won't tell me what it is, it just says "Unknown
Device" so I have no clue whatsoever what it could be.

Any further help by you or anyone else would certainly again be appreciated.

The unknown device may be the video.
If you can extract the contents of the downloaded drivers/software to a folder on
your desktop:
In Device Manager double click the unknown device to open its properties.
Click the Driver tab > Update Driver button.
In the first window Select "No, not this time" and click Next.
Select " Install from a list or specific location" and click Next.
Use the Browse button to point to the directory/folder with the .inf file in it.
(desktop folder with extracted files)
Follow the prompts to continue/finish.

If no joy:
To ensure all previous ATI is removed, follow the Manual Removal instructions.
Scroll down to the Software Installation section and select Radeon from either View
Online or Print Instructions.
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questionID=20870

After following the above removal instructions, at the bottom of the same removal
page select Radeon under "Please select your product to continue". Follow the
instructions explicitly as explained to install .Net Framework and the recommended
driver package with the Catalyst Control Center. Also I notice no mention of DirectX
on the installation page, yet on another page I read that DX 9 is required. (may be
for the MMC).

If still no joy, start from scratch and use Safe Mode.
Once all previous ATI is removed, reboot to Safe Mode > Device Manager.
Remove any/all devices listed in Display Adapters. Any older devices that were
installed may/will show in Safe Mode that do not show in Normal mode, these can/will
cause conflicts.

Reboot to Normal and reinstall.
