Video Help needed

B

Brian

I have a couple of DVDs containing unedited video shot on my camcorder.
Now that I have a suitable computer with some "lite" editing software, I
would like to edit them and burn new DVDs.

My problem is how do I get the video from the DVD into my Pinnacle editing
program. A friend tells me that DVDs are in MPG format and I need to convert
to DVI

Is this correct and is there any software available to do the job?

Does anyone know of any sites that give advice on videos? (or even a more
appropriate news group)

Thanks

Brian

rec.video maybe.
If each clip or sequence was recorded separately you should be ok, but if
the DVD was created by streaming all the camera contents to a standalone
DVD recorder as one recording you might have files which are too large
for the editor to digest. If this is the case, TMPGEnc or similar can be
used to chop up the clips.

Hi Brian,
Try alt.video.dvd.software although the only software I know of that is free
is DVD Shrink and DVD Decryptor (though these are mainly for copying
commercial DVD's to PC Hard Drive and back to a DVD-/+ R
If of course you've already got the video fottage on DVD, Then DVD Shrink is
all you need,Install it, *open disc* (Shrink will scan your disc) Then click
on the *Reauthor* button :))
Read through the help files in Shrink to check out what you need to do.
