Video Editing Software Hangs

Before I upgraded my computer, I could capture video, edit, and burn;
however, the quality wasn't very good due to a slow processor. I just
upgraded to a 3gh processor and now I have a problem. I can capture my video
through my firewire card into my editing software, but when I attempt to grab
my video clip and play it back, the video won't play and the editing software
freezes up. This happens no matter which editing software I try.
(MovieMaker, Ulead or other).
By the way, If I open video clips I captured before the upgrade, they freeze
up my software as well.
Can anyone help me?

Yes, I put in a new motherboard and RAM with my intel pentium4 cpu. I had to
change video cards, however, since my pci video card kept causing my machine
to reboot. I replaced it with an agp card to fix that problem (it must be a
lesser quality card, however, because my video lags a little compared with
how it acted before the upgrade). Could this possibly have something to do
with my video card?
