Video Editing Problems

Hi,

I have a just brought a new laptop and having major
problem running video editing programs such as Pinnacle
Studio 8, Adobe Premier 6, Ulead Video Studio 6. In all
programs I am able to capture from the DV camcorder,
however the programs would crash randomly when
editing/loading the DV Avi file.

As a test I have taken the DV Avi file to my friends
machine and with the same programs were able to
edit/render/export the DV Avi file with no problems. The
DV Avi can be played with Media Player with no problem.

When the program crashes on my laptop window xp just
display the standard gpf message and closes the program
down. Looking at the Event log I can see no specific
details (except fault address) of the crashes.

Can anyone suggest how to find out the problem i.e is
there something I should be looking for that may be
causing conflicts. I have ran Microsoft memory diagnostic
test to check the RAM but all tests were successfully
passed. Could it be SP1 or Directx 8.1?

Could be either a driver or a hardware (memory) issue. Make sure that you
have the latest patches and video drivers installed for your laptop (from
the manufacturers website). Also, since you do not provide the address
listed in the error/event log, it is hard to try to figure out where the
problem may lie, but since it occurs with multiple programs, it can be a
problem with the physical memory or even something such as an errant dll in
your windows installation.

Without more information, that is really all I can guess at.
