Video device not responding

I have been using Sonic to record home movies to DVD and have discovered that
it looks easier to add music using MM2. Only when I try to capture from
VHSfrom VCR it plays in the preview window fine, but shows up as a blank blue
space when finished. And I get a message saying the specified video device is
not reponding. Why would it work on Sonic if it's connected incorrectly? The
movies on the tape I'm trying to capture is video only, no audio.

MM is designed to work with a firewire device, capture using Sonic, if you
can as a dv-avi file or WMV file and then import this into MM to add the
music etc.

Guess I don't know how to change the extension to .avi or .wmv. I keep trying
to do the "open with" and that doesn't work. Is there another way? I can also
capture in Dell Video Movie Creator by Roxio which has still another
extension I can't change.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Only other way would be to buy a an analogue to digital convertor, there are
cheap ones from pinnacle. but they are not brilliant, better ones from
canopus and miglia, but more expensive. It depends on how many tapes you
want to do.
