video conversation with MSN Messenger and Win Messenger

Hi

I'm using an XP Computer with turned-on ICF as my internet gateway and I
manage to get voice-conversations and video-conversations working as long as
both parties use the same messenger. But iif one is MSN Messenger 6.0 and
the other one is Win Messenger 4.7 then the video won't work. It always
tells that the other one doesn't support because not same messenger. I tried
to start the video-conversation from both sides. But doesn't work.

So I guess that the video-features of these two messengers aren't compatible
with each other, right? Or is there a work-around?

Thanks in advance.

Greetings,

They are compatible with one another with a few exceptions.

Windows Messenger's video is compatible with MSN Messenger 6.x, but only to users on Windows
XP. MSN Messenger 6.x's "Webcam" mode is only compatible with MSN Messenger 6.x clients (any
Windows version) but MSN Messenger 6.x's "Video Conference" (see Start Video Conference under
the Actions menu) mode works with both Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger 6/5 clients, but
only on Windows XP.

So, to recap:

These are compatible with one another:
Windows Messenger 'Start Camera' (on Windows XP)
MSN Messenger 5.x 'Start Camera' (on Windows XP)
MSN Messenger 6.x 'Start Video Conference' (on Windows XP)

and these are compatible with one another:
MSN Messenger 6.x 'Start Webcam' (any Windows version)

For reference, the audio in MSN Messenger 4.x and Windows Messenger 4.x is compatible with
each other and all the versions afterwards.

Thanks for this very percise answer! I sincerely hope that Microsoft pays
you some money for doing this job (or at least give you all their software
for free)! I read lots of your answers in this newsgroup and you're really
doing a great job!
