video clip goes white for a few clips in the same file

I've recently bought a new computer, and found out that an old ppt file with
..wmv clips was not able to open any of the clips on the new computer
(despite the clips are in the same folder). I tried reopening the same file
on the old laptop and found that one of the three clips also have the same
problem -- the video clip goes white when requested to be played, but the
other 2 clips still work ok.

does updating my windows media player to version 10 have to do with this
change? or are there be other problems i am neglecting?

This is usually an indication that the path to the video is too long. What
version of PowerPoint are you using? Where are the videos stored? If they are
on the Desktop or in My Documents somewhere, trying moving them to C:\Test.
Move the presentation to the same folder. Then open PowerPoint and open the
presentation file, delete the videos, reinsert the videos and test the slide
show. Do the videos now work?
