video cards

ok so heres the plan, i want a good video card (which im going to get) but
ive heard that you need to uninstall the one you have first, the problem is
mine is a built in SiS650, im so confused what to do, this might not make
sense but help would e great.

Disable the chip in Device Manager and remove the drivers for it. Your new
card should come with detailed instructions for this process. Or just
Google for "installing video card". Or go to sites like www.pcworld.com or
www.pcmagazine.com and search for how to install a video card.

Check your motherboard manual. Some have bios switches you can turn off and
others have jumpers you can pull to disable the onboard video. Those onboard
videos usually use your ram memory to function so it will also save you some
memory. I would disable the onboard video, remove the drivers in devices,
shutdown, plug in the new board, then boot back up. It may come up in
standard VGA before you load the new drivers so your icons and resoloution
may be funny at first. It may also try to set up during boot up and want the
new driver cd inserted. After that you will still want to run setup by
ejecting and reinserting the cd to get all the benefit of your new card
software.
