Video Capture

I'm frustrated...I'm unable to capture video from either my analog video
camera with an S-connection or from an analog VHS player. When I click
"Capture from video device", I get an error message saying "A video capture
device was not detected. Verify that a device is turned on and connected
properly, and then try again." I also have a Sony program called "Click to
DVD" and that has been working fine...I'm lost...any help please???

In order to be able to caprute video from a tv tuner, anlog input e.t.c. it
must be WDM (Windows Direct Media) or VFW (Video For Windows) compatible.
Movie maker and other programms like that can detect your tv tuner only if it
supports one of the above

Some manufacturers release WDM drivers for their products from the first
time (Lifeview, Winfast e.t.c.) others a bt later and for some products only
(pinnacle) and others dont support that feature(ATI)

You can see if your tuner is WDM from the device manager, at the "Video,
audio and game controllers section".

If your tuner is not WDM, you ll check the site of manufactuer if there is a
newer driver which is WDM. Otherwise you cant do much, but only capture with
the bundled with your drivers software...

I am also having problems with capturing video in mpeg-2 format with the
NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 Display cum Capture card. I do not know whether it is
SP2 or the frequent automatic updates XP keeps doing every day to the O S,
but I have now completely lost the functionality to capture video in mpeg-2
format with NeroVision Express 3. Even the video does not appear any more in
the NeroExpress window.
Just until two weeks ago, I was able to see the video, set the capture
settings, capture videos for a full movie skipping commercials and burn the
DVD with Nero 6. After the installation of SP2 and the automatic updates,
all that is gone.
Should I just Restore the system to the starting day of SP2, stop all
automatic updates to get back the video capture functionality?
Is MS or XP deliberately trying to kill the analogue capture functionality
on XP systems and force everyone into digital video and the Windows Media
standard? If it is so, MS should warn users what the updates are going to do
and educate them how to capture videos suing non-Microsoft software like
Nero.
