VIA EPIA-CL System hangs when no mouse connected

Hi,

I'm using a VIA EPIA-CL Mini ITX motherboard. When I try to boot xp
embedded without a mouse the system hangs at the xp embedded startup screen.
I'm using explorer with the luna visual style. Has anyone else seen this
behavior?

Thanks,
Rich

Rich,

A few tricks:

- Try to add/remove /NoSerialMice and /fastdetect switches to your boot.ini ARC path.

- If you don't need keyboard&mouse at all, it may be better to remove the appropriate and related components from your image
configuration: "Class Installer - Keyboard", "Keyboard Class Driver", the same for mouse, etc.

- Check you FBALog.txt and SetupAPI.log for any errors

- Also, you may want to use BootVis tool to figure out what components are making you boot slow:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/sysperf/fastboot/default.mspx

- Read this: http://www.hollowbox.net/digests/twldigestV6-16.htm#topic_20

KM,

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, none of those options seemed to fix
the problem. I have made a little bit of progress though. The VIA board has
two pci slots. I removed the cards from those pci slots and the system
booted. One of the cards was a Blue Heat serial card, the other card was a
National Instruments IO card. The IO card does not use interupts. I found
that the system will boot without a mouse if the cards are placed in the two
slots in the right order. I'm assuming that this is some kind of problem
with interrupts, but I can't figure out what exactly. Have any ideas?

Thanks for the help.

Sincerely,
Rich

Rich,

You did not tell us what errors you saw in the log files I mentioned.

I can't help you those cards as I never played with them. But look at the BIOS settings for some interrupt control.
Also, make sure you understand how those cards are supported within your image (hope you componentized the drivers).
