Do you know why this appears on my LCD monitor every bootup and again at
startup? Is this connection weak or loose? I tightened the two screws.

Its probably just your monitor telling you what it is doing.
Check the monitor manual to see what it means.

It is just a notice from the MONITOR (not Vista) that the VGA connector is in
use and does not mean that there is any problem.

How can I turn it off, it appears over the Vista icon at startup, sometimes
over the "Welcome" screen too?

Have you investigated the monitor setup controls on the monitor itself and
looked through all the options?

My monitor also displays the connection (DVI) when I boot up, or wakeup the
monitor, but it disappears very quickly and there is also no option to turn it
off. Perhaps there might be some option to shorten the length of time it is on
screen, otherwise there is possibly nothing you can do about it and it does not
interfere with performance in any way. Another idea is to see if the monitor
has a setting that only allows the VGA connection to be used so that it will not
search connections for a signal. Vista itself has no options or controls for
this behavior.

I did, there is nothing about it.

Maybe someone could direct me to a LCD forum website. This is an Emachine
monitor, their techs don't know what it means or why it appears each time.

Hi Bill,

This is simply a message from your monitor to inform you which input source
is in use. The reason it can appear more than once is that it can be set to
appear when there is a change in screen resolution - the initial bootup is
640x480, the screen with the Vista icon may be 800x600 and the 'Welcome'
screen can be 1024x768. You may be able to turn it off through the menu
options on the monitor, but if you can't then you are stuck with it.

Makes sense now, I have a custom bootup screen I use from Tuneup Utilities
2007, and a welcome screen from the same, my vista screen resolution is 1440
X 900 on my desktop. I'm sure the custom screens are not that resolution and
were stretched to fit.

Dear Retired Boeing Bill,

PCs and especially Vista are new to me. I just got a new Gateway 22"
flatscreen monitor with a new Gateway desktop computer. I get this same VGA
plug connector icon display that covers everything while it is on the screen.
I don't remember getting this icon display when I first used my new system.
But now it appears for what seems like a very long time especially when you
are trying to see what is beneath it. As mentioned by you or others, I think
it comes up more than once during reboot and startup.

I'm not sure what he means by "disappears very quickly", but mine stays up
45 seconds or more which subjectively seems like 5 minutes when it is
covering up information on windows beneath.

Did you ever figure out how to turn it off, shorten the time of its display
or somehow lessen it's annoying presence? I find it increasingly annoying.
Thanks for any help.

Help! Did anyone figure out how to turn this off or shorten its display
time. It is like the Chinese water drip torture and is s...l...o...w...l...y
